Bio

B.Arch, Pratt Institute

Serban Ionescu, born 1984 in Romania, and grew up in New York City, attended Pratt Institute and graduated from the Architectural program in 2007. He is currently running Serban  Ionescu Studio, a multi-disciplinary practice in drawing, painting, furniture, film and installation.  He has worked with several Architecture firms and it’s currently in charge of the design team at  Serett, a design and fabrication studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Serban has exhibited work in numerous solo and group shows through-out New York City. The work varying in medium, anywhere from drawing, large installation, built/lived environments to film. Serban’s work has  been published in New York Times, TimeOut New York, Dwell, Working Class Magazine, Troy Record,  and many other publications and blogs. Challenging the abstract and conceptual  problem of how the humorous and the melancholic can live under one roof. He also co-founded Gestarc Gallery, a public space for Art and Architecture from 2005-2008, and the collective ‘The Objectionists’. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, with his cat Count Dracula.
