Anna Weichsel

Anna Weichsel is an architect, engineer and scholar, holding a Diploma in Engineering and Architecture from the Technical University Dresden and the Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany and is currently a PhD candidate in architecture at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining RPI Anna was practicing architecture in Berlin as a principal of Weichsel Sollich Architekten and taught at the TU Berlin and the University of Pennsylvania.

Anna taught seminars on the history of architectural experimentation and theories of material culture. Her research focuses on conceptual questions of the disciplinarity of architecture at the intersection of psychology, brain research, and art since the 19th century and engages the fictional character of knowledge production. Her dissertation centers on the dynamics of architectural space conceptions in the early 20th century investigating theories on creativity and ideas on generating psycho-organizational effects with architecture. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her theoretical work, including Getty Library Research Grant, GAPSA Award for Interdisciplinary Innovations, Will M. Mehlhorn Scholarship First Prize, Akademie c/o First Prize for Theoretical Writing.

Anna is also a registered architect and member of the Chamber of Architects in Germany. For a number of her realized buildings and projects she received awards including First Prize for „Sculpture for German Embassy in Washington, DC“, seven awards for excellent architecture in Germany as well as the First Prize “Young Architects in Berlin.”
