William Virgil

Bio

William Virgil is an Artist, Architect and Army veteran, co-founder of BRASH Collective and a lecturer at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) School of Architecture. William holds a Master of Architecture from Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), a Masters of Human Resources and a Bachelor of Architecture from Florida International University. He has been on the design team at Xefirotarch in Los Angeles since 2015 and worked for several years as a designer in Miami based studios. In addition to lecturing, William has acted as a guest critic at SCI-Arc, Syracuse and Kent State Universities. During his time at SCI-Arc, he taught as an assistant to Frank Gehry in a visiting studio that examines Prisons of the Future and collaborated with Gehry Partners. Additionally, he taught studios and seminars in the Design of Cities postgraduate program.

His works have been exhibited both domestically and internationally. Exhibitions include, but are not limited to, Hauser Wirth, the A+D Museum, LACI LA Kretz Innovation Campus, SCIARC Public Programs, Familiar Primitives design team at One Night Stand LA (Los Angeles, California), Kent CAED, Armstrong Gallery (Kent, Ohio), and Arsenal Gallery (Bialystok, Poland).

William’s research is focused on examining the role of an architect as a visual storyteller, through the use of media, by utilizing film and compositing techniques to promote culture. His research operates at the intersection of art, architecture and technology. He is interested in multidisciplinary formal explorations in design between ordinary objects and eccentric
modeling techniques.
