In
addition to establishing the Albany-Rensselaer Train
Complex as a new transformational hub along the
northeastern rail corridor, students re-designed
the existing station and site to be recognized as
a social node for the Capital District area. The
students achieved this by adding a light rail system
and prescribing alternate programs to allow the
communities along both banks of the Hudson River
to congregate within the complex. Students needed
to provide program for the community residents,
such as grocery and farmers markets, cafes, etc.
but also mitigate the effects that influxes of commuters
might bring to the space.
