Description:
The studio started by understanding organization
principles of Islamic Art and Architecture. In order
to move past the simple, symbolic, representations
of Islamic Art and Architecture, the studio focused
on the metaphysical, organizational and spatial
characteristics that define its sensibility. A trip
to NYC to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art helped
the students in their proposals of an addition of
similar scale on the opposite Southern side of the
Museum. The program will contain exhibition, restoration,
administration, archive and peripheral programs
to support the Met’s permanent collection
of Islamic Art and Architecture. The proposal also
required thoughtful landscape integration with the
surrounding Central Park.
