Takaharu Tezuka is an architect, founder of Tezuka Architects, and Professor at the Tokyo City University. Tezuka received his undergraduate degree from the Musashi Institute of Technology and his graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Tezuka taught at the Musashi Institute of Technology from 1996-2008, and at the Tokyo City University since 2009. Yui Tezuka received her undergraduate degree from Musashi Institute of Technology and studied at The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College of London in 1992 and 1993. In 1994, Takaharu Tezuka founded Tezuka Architects in Japan with Yui Tezuka.

Takaharu and Yui Tezuka have extensive experience designing spaces for children. Their theory on children`s environment is published as the “Yellowbook” from Harvard University. Although they are extremely well-known for their designs of projects such as the Fuji Kindergarten (2007), the Asahi Kindergarten (2013), and the Chigasaki Zion Christian Church/Mihato Kindargarten (2013), they also have many other works that exceed expectations. Some of their projects include; the SORA no MORI Clinic in Okinawa, Japan (2014), the Tokamachi Industry and Crafts Center Ikote in Tokamachi, Japan (2015), and the Tomioka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hall in Tomioka, Japan (2018).

Their internationally recognized projects have been presented with many awards, some of the most recent include the Architectural Institute of Japan’s Annual Architectural Commendations (2016, 2019), UNESCO’s Global Award for Sustainable Architecture (2017), the Moriyama RAIC International Prize (2017), the Excellence Award of Hyogo Prefecture/ Architectural Award for Community Development of Human Scale in Hyogo, Hyogo Prefecture (2019), Good design prize, Japan Institute of Design Promotion (2019).
