Architecture Design 3: Housing Complex[ity]

Selected Student Work:

Eric Chin
Joseph Daniele

Alec DuMond
Yuan Feng

The house; the minimum habitation for the most basic human need of sheltering oneself from the elements is a category within Architecture that is rich of examples. By selecting a handful of 20th century canonical of houses for a concentrated study by the students, the professors set out to create a base of which could be used to juxtapose the architectural ideas inherent in this selection.  Students’ attention was guided to the geometry and structure of the Architecture as the embodiment of its symbolism.  During the semester, particular focus was placed on how one relates and situates a building within the urban fabric such as downtown Troy.  In this respect, emphasis was placed on discussions about the relationship between public and private spaces and how the boundary between the two can influence and help generate architectural ideas.
