Catherine Betz’23 Wins H2M Architects + Engineers STEM Scholarship

RPI Student News:
BArch Freshman student Catherine Betz was awarded the H2M architects + engineers STEM Scholarship, receiving a $1,000 prize. Catherine is also a triple legacy at RPI where her father BS’83, BArch’84, grandfather BS’55 and uncle BS’89 are alumni.

The H2M architects + engineers STEM Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and character to a graduating senior who is planning to attend college and enroll in a science, technology, engineering, architecture, or math (STEM) degree program. H2M is a 400+ person architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Melville, with office locations throughout the NY/NJ metro area, Lower Hudson Valley and Albany.

Catherine’s essay on her plans at RPI stated, “I will be challenged to solve the most important issues we face on the planet. How can I design our buildings and cities to meet the needs of a zero carbon footprint? How can I design for global warming, rising sea levels and the impact it will have on us?”

Applicants from School Districts across the NY/NJ metro area, Lower Hudson Valley and Albany region competed for the scholarship. CEO and President Rich Humann, P.E. awarded the H2M architects + engineers STEM Scholarships at a reception on June 28, 2018. Along with the 8 Scholarships awarded were Proclamations, Certificates, and Citations from each student’s local, state and federal government representatives.
