“RETIREMENT”: JOHN HARDY_

Rensselaer School of Architecture launches its Fall 2019 Lecture Series this Thursday September 5th, 6 pm at EMPAC, with the lecture “Retirement” by Bali-based architect John Hardy. Reception to follow in Evelyn’s Café.

John Hardy and his daughter Elora have created and incredible bamboo world in Bali, Indonesia, composed of houses, a school, a hotel, some bridges, factories, a permaculture farm, an architecture office and many other structures.

In the last decade years, Hardy’s expertise has received global exposure, leading to TED Talks by John in 2010 and by his daughter Elora Hardy in 2015.

“Having emigrated from Canada aged 25, and after a successful 20-year career as a jeweler, …[he] was determined to find a way of building that was more natural and sustainable than standard techniques, Hardy developed a system of building with bamboo that many now recognize as among the world’s most successful (and beautiful) examples of sustainable craftsmanship.”  (ArchDaily)
