Dominick Pilla

Bio

As the founder and principal of DRPILLA, Dominick Pilla leads the strategic direction and oversight of the firm while also being highly engaged with clients, projects, and staff development. He has more than 30 years of experience specializing in the structural analysis, design and review of nearly every building type, including commercial and residential buildings, hospitality and sports/entertainment facilities. One of his key strengths is combining the most current technologies with traditional pragmatic engineering. As a lecturer in the School of Architecture and the School of Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Pilla is able to bridge both disciplines to convey ideas involving materials and structural systems applicable to design developments. In this role, he appreciates the opportunity that allows him to challenge issues beyond the norm of commercial practice.

As an engineer and architect, in both private and academia, Pilla is actively engaged in the interface of engineering and architecture. He approaches the design process from an integrated approach; fusing form and function to interlace multiple disciplines that extend through all phases of design and construction to satisfy the aesthetic and functional objectives of the “whole” building.

Both professionally and academically, Pilla continues to synthesize engineering and architectural technologies for the advancement of the built environment.

Pilla received a Master of Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering with a Full Research Assistant Award and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a Minor in Architecture and Planning from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
