FE_20200222: Instrument Calibration

Rensselaer School of Architecture continues its Spring 2021 Lecture Series with the online lecture “FE_20200222: Instrument Calibration” by artist Sarah Oppenheimer.

Sarah Oppenheimer is an architectural manipulator. She creates apertures and extensions in familiar spaces, displacing our experience of inside and out, near and far, here and there. it. Her calculated manoeuvres within built environments challenge our understanding of architectural space. Oppenheimer’s work is made with meticulous precision and quality of finish. The fine calibration of her instruments lends them a sense of permanence that reorients our perception of the environment and ourselves within it. Oppenheimer’s work both confounds and clarifies our physical and perceptual experience of the architecture that surrounds us.
