CARLA LEITAO AT THE 17TH VENICE ARCHITECTURE BIENNALE_

Lecturer Carla Leitao at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale Italian Virtual Pavilion. Titled “CITYX Venice” and curated by Tom Kovac (RMIT) and Alessandro Melis (Portsmouth), the pavilion responds to the call ‘How will we live together?’ by the Biennale’s curator Hashim Sarkis.

Prof. Leitao participates as part of the Space and Planetary Design Group, by Creative Director Ed Keller, and presents her [PROTO] SPACES / PLANETOLOGY Studios project that explores how questions about design shift to incorporate material particles that are livelier – in a physical, digital, virtual, and scalar sense?

[PROTO] SPACES reflects on architecture inquiries and explorations around material and digital world integration in the design of space and environments and introduces work realized with students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute School of Architecture, in collaboration with RPI’s CRAIVE LAB, exploring core typologies of this perspective. CRAIVE LAB is an immersive space at RPI, directed by Prof. Jonas Braasch – host to a number of multidisciplinary explorations.

The video showcase work by SoA students: Jerry Huang, Emily Klein, Ivan Leon, Parker Bunce, Ryan Kresser, Rebecca Bruno, Rae Koshida, Anqi Huo, Ellen Wong, Kristn Van Gilst, Peini Chen, Nick Pretel, Alex Schneiderman, Min He, Zhanqing Xu, Huajie Ma, Shane Alzheimer, Ashley Dotson, Emily Freeman, Anna Wiersma, Madison Irish, Adam Seres, Mavin Liu, Adam Champagne, Amy Lam, Courtney Deveau, Bryce Crawford, Alanna Deery, Taelinn Lamontagne, Luke Korzenko, Ryan Hu, Al-Jalil Gault, Stephenie Williams, Lauren Ruskauff, Christopher Muscari, Nya Jackson, Ashley Membreno, Dan Li, Ryan Hao, and Felix Reyes.

Prof. Leitao would like to thank Ed Keller for the invitation, Dean Evan Douglis at SoA RPI for his support; Jonas Braasch for enabling and supporting the collaboration with the CRAIVE Lab; Ted Krueger, Jeff Carter, Jerry Huang, Samuel Chabot, JT Rinker, Emily Klein, Ivan Leon, and Szymon Morawski for helping so many of these projects come through; and Ed Keller and Elliott Sharp for their performances in the STRING project.
