Christianna Bennett appointed Assistant Professor

The Dean’s Office has announced the full-time tenure-track appointment of Prof. Christianna Bennett as a new Assistant Professor in the School of Architecture. With expertise in the areas of building design, landscape architecture, experimental horticulture and botany, and environmental ethics, Prof. Bennett represents a new era of innovative educators and researchers committed to a more transdisciplinary approach in response to the most pressing environmental and social problems of our time.

Merging together biological, artificial, and cultural systems, Prof. Bennett’s unique research offers important insights into the future of botanical-cyborg hybrids and their capacity to contribute to a more equitable and sustainable world.

In 2012, Prof. Bennett received her Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Architecture, and in 2016 she earned her Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design earning distinctions in both Landscape History and the Core Landscape Studio.

Her essays have been included in distinguished publications such as Lexington Press, ACTAR (pending), SITE Magazine, Masks Journal, and TASCHEN.

In recognition of her outstanding research, she was selected in 2022 as an invited editor for an MIT Media Lab Ancient Future Technology publication, she served as a 2021 ACSA Peer Reviewer at the 110th Annual Conference, and received a 2021 Making + Meaning Distinction Award from Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). She was also awarded a 2021 Rensselaer Brown’s Traveling Fellowship.

She has taught at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), the Boston Architectural College (BAC), and the Graduate School of Design (GSD) at Harvard University.

She is a member of The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture (ACADIA), American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Hudson River Watershed Alliance, The Landscape Research Group (LRG), National Association for the Advancement for Colored People (NAACP), National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP), National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and the Society of Architectural Historians (SAH).
