Following submission of her doctorate in 2012, Jill pursued becoming a qualified solicitor through obtaining the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh and undertaking a legal traineeship at Brodies LLP between 2013 and 2015. Jill began as a Lecturer in Private Law at the University of Glasgow in August 2015 and became Senior Lecturer in January 2021.

She is currently investigating the tensions between social justice, economic development and environmental protection in the context of the law regulating land use. She is particularly interested in analysing these tensions in relation to water. Jill is also engaged in comparative law including with the jurisdictions of South Africa, Louisiana and Norway. Her monograph “Private Water Rights” was published by the Edinburgh Legal Education Trust in 2015.

Jill has a long-term research Project on the Reform of Private Water Rights. You can find out more information about this Project on the Reform of Private Water Rights webpage.
