Rensselaer School of Architecture continues its Spring 2024 Lecture Series this Wednesday, April 17th, at 5:00 p.m., at EMPAC with the lecture “The Shape of Things to Come” by Jaron Lubin of Safdie Architects.

Jaron Lubin is a partner at Safdie Architects. He contributes a tireless commitment to advancing the firm’s impact through strategic design thinking and exploration. Lubin’s passion for progressive design methodologies is embodied in many of the studio’s most complex and multi-dimensional urban projects. Lubin leads or actively engages with much of the research, fellowship, teaching and architectural exploration of the firm. A graduate of the University of Michigan and distinguished Alumni of UCLA, he is a frequent writer, juror and lecturer. In addition to having served as Design Critic in Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Lubin has taught multiple studios at the GSD with Moshe Safdie, most recently  ‘The Shape of Things to Come,’ (Spring 2022).

Safdie Architects is a design studio driven by a spirit of innovation and idealism, founded upon the guiding principles that architecture should be inherently timeless, connected to nature, and profoundly humane.

Safdie Architects’ design philosophy is rooted in Moshe Safdie’s powerful metaphor: “For Everyone a Garden,” the beautifully simple notion that sees architecture as a generous act of connecting us to nature and creating meaningful spaces of community that serve as catalysts for vibrant public life. While globally active, the practice is intentional in its response to local context, maintaining a nimble and bespoke approach to delivering some of the world’s most imaginative commissions across diverse scales, geographies, and typologies.

‘The Shape of Things to Come’ was the title of a 1971 Newsweek article and has been revitalized as a design studio at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, taught by Moshe Safdie and Jaron Lubin. ‘The Shape of Things to Come’ explores the role that the architect plays in shaping the built environment, specifically focusing on the concept of “all season design.”

We are excited to welcome Jaron Lubin and look forward to seeing you at this lecture.
